The Paths of the Damned

Session 20- A Case of Mistaken Identity

27th of Sigmarzeit 2522IC

The Story this far
A summary of the tale of our adventurers

The Storm of Chaos: a time when forces of the Chaos Gods pillaged and looted the Empire before being turned back by the gallant forces of the Empire.

Our tale begins with the party taking refuge in the village of Untergard . Untegard lies in the region of the Empire known as Middenland, an area ravaged by the war. The party quickly learned of a Beastman war band approaching the village and decided to throw in their lot with the villagers and accompanied them to Middenheim. On the journey they got the opportunity to get to know several of their travelling companions including Captain Schiller, the upstanding leader of the village, Granny Moescher, a local healer and well respected wise woman, and Father Dietrich and a priest of Sigmar who carried a sacred icon of Sigmar with him. Later in the journey Father Dietrich was killed, and as a last request he asked the party to return the relic to the Temple of Sigmar in Middenheim.

The party also learnt the story of the founding of Untergard. Around a century ago Graf Sternhauer violently evicted an entire village when they failed to pay extremely high taxes. Several villagers died during the eviction including Granny Moescher’s father. Granny sought revenge for the killing and lfeft the villagers, journeying to ruins of the village Sternhauer cleared. Granny started an incantation which Otto Von Diesel identified as a spell designed to kill the current Graf. The party intervened and Granny was slain in an attempt to stop her from murdering the Graf.

Several days later the refugees arrived in the city of Middenheim and the party delivered the relic to Father Morten, a scholarly priest in the Temple. Anxious for paid work, the party took a job from Alphonse Hercules de Gasgoigne, the job was to rescue a kidnapped boy. During the fight the boy died, and the kidnapper, Claudio Carbonetti, escaped (but not before Aurora took his ear off)

Not long after this the party was take in for questioning by the City Watch. Commander Schutzmann informed the party that Father Morten had been discovered dead, and they where the last people to see him alive, as after their meeting with him he locked himself in his room to study the newly acquired relic. Eventually Schutzmann revealed that he didn’t suspect that the party was responsible for the death of the priest and drafted the party into the investigation. When the party searched Father Morten’s dwellings they found that he’d been killed by a magically poisoned black dart, they also found scratches on the windowsill and a foot print outside the window- although the footprint couldn’t be properly identified.

Taking the evidence back to the Commander they were informed of 3 similar murders. The first was a watchman on duty outside the Collegium Theologica. His death occurred on the same night as Morten’s murder. The Second was a doorkeeper at the Dwarven Engineer’s guide; here entry had been forced and only one object was missing- a map of the sewers. The third death was the most unusual, an unidenitied victim found in a back alleyway. The party visited Morr’s garden where they discovered the identity of the third victim as Gerhard Kroen and also that three men had approached the priests of Morr and paid for a funeral. Carved on Froen’s gravestone was the symbol of a crossed sword & hammer in front of a twin tailed comet flanked by the letters O and F.

Having run out leads the party made ready to enter the sewers close to the Collegium Theologica…

Session 9- Rats!
Venturing into the sewers our party of adventures discover the stuff of nightmares

Ragnar Urgrimson led the rest of his band through the streets towards the sewer entrance that he and Aurora discovered. [[:lealagrenzhann | Leala ] was quick to suggest a trip to the market to buy lanterns, oil and a small bird. The three where easy to acquire, although Cavindel still couldn’t find a buckler.

Session 6- The Kidnappers Escape
The Party attempts to stop Claudio from escaping and despite heroic efforts fail.

15th of Signmarzeit 2522

Cavindel moved back to the door blocking Claudio, the Kidnapper’s ringleader, in the small room. Claudio then charged the two elves holding the door (Cavindel and Lanos)and thrust his rapier through Cavindel’s right arm and found it firmly lodged their. Meanwhile Uto Woldred was struggling against the lone thug on the landing failing to land a blow while taking one in the process.

Downstairs the tide was beginning to turn in the heroes favour, with Leala Grenzhann dropping a kidnapper, and moving on to the tougher kidnapper who’d been armed with the Blunderbuss.

Session 5- The Kidnapping
"The best plans of men and mice often go awry"

15th of Sigmarzeit 2522

After staying the night in the Altquarter casing the Estalian’s joint the party had a good idea of the number of kidnappers and drew up a rough routine. The party then spend most of the morning drafting up a plan, despite the arguing they where finally ready to move.

The basic plan was to have stealthy heroes climb onto the roof of the building and wait for one of the kidnappers to leave to get food. Once the kidnapper left, the rest of the party would try and break through the front door while the people on the roof would enter the building through a skylight.

Uto Woldred, Aurora, Cavindel, and Lanos climbed to the roof of the building- although attracted the attention of on of the guards who took a look in the attic to see what the noise was but luckily didn’t see the heroes perched on the roof.

As a kidnapper left to collect food, the rest of the party grabbed a large heavy beam and started to break the door down, rousing the kidnappers inside. Simultaneously the heroes on the roof started to make their way into the attic, but found that the ladders had been removed from to the attic.

Session 4- Middenheim
After the Drama of the journey, the Heroes arrive at the gates of Middenhiem.

11th-13th of Sigmarzeit 2522 (Days 4-6)

Despite Granny’s death the people of Untergard continued on their journey to Middenheim. With the group once more on well patrolled roads the remaining 3 days of traveling where surprisingly easy.

On 13th of Sigmarzeit the walled city of Middenheim, perched upon a mountain of solid rock came could be easily spotted in the distance.

14th of Sigmarzeit 2522

As the heroes approached the city, the toll of war was obvious. Several bodies still hung from the ropes they attempted to scale the walls with, and grave diggers where burying and burning bodies en mass.

Session 2- Travelling to Middenheim
The Journey to Middenheim

Our Party of Intrepid adventurers leave Untergard and continue traveling to Middenheim, meeting some interesting people along the way

After Gerard Schiller (Captain) made the announcement that they’d be leaving the village behind Aurora asked Hans Baumer if he would take the elf to see the band of beastmen. Both the elf and forester left the village and headed into the Drakwald. After several hours of traveling the forester and kithband where able to get a good look at the encamped beastman threat; there could be no doubt, the village would be overrun if it tried to stand against these monsters. Aurora decided that he’d seen enough and the duo made their way back to the village; arriving just after dark.

Meanwhile the rest of the group where dining with the Captain and the Priest Father Dietrich. As the priest introduced himself, it was evident that he was not local as he spoke with a soft Altdorfain accent. The conversation over dinner was mostly business, with both Leala and Ragnor offered to take a guard duty. Aurora arrived towards the end of dinner and relaid most of what he’d seen to the Captain; who promptly retired saying that he had preparations to finish.
